History

The Communication PosGraduate Program from the Faculty of Communication of the University of Brasília will complete, in 2024, 50 years of uninterrupted excellence graduating and research activities within the field. With a consolitaded Masters program, in action since 1974 and, a top level PhD program, builted in 2003, the PPG/FAC/UnB, due to its central location, it has been marked by its strong regional, national and international insertion and by the formation of new qualified staff for teaching, research and extension mainly to the Midwest and North regions.

The University of Brasília (UnB) is the biggest university of the Central West, and one of the biggest universities of Brazil, with nearly 39 thousand undergraduating students, more than 8 thousand masters and PhD students, as well as more than 2.8 thousand teachers (according to the yearly statistcs of 2017).

Recognized as a democratic and inclusive University (15 years ago, UnB was the first Federal University to adopt a system of racial quotas), it is a broad environment for living and sharing knowledge, idealized and implemented by Darcy Ribeiro, Anísio Teixeira, Lúcio Costa and Oscar Niemeyer.

The PPG-FAC/UnB was created on three pillars: 1) by being a pioneer in its education methods and propositions with a strong element of innovation; 2) the interest in research and the output of knowledge, also as the making of scientific academic’s scenarios; and 3) the internationalization. These three pillars come from FAC-UnB’s own trajectory, and they are one of the singularities consolidated nowadays in the Postgraduate program.

The Postgraduate Program in Communication, from its lines of research, has been recognized for its studies of Communication and Society, with emphasis on epistemology, theories and technologies of communication, communication policies and culture (of which he is a pioneer in Brazil), journalism (with an updated focus on structural transformations) and studies of languages and narratives.

Throughout the 44 years of master’s activity and 15 years of Doctorate’s existence, The Communication PosGraduate Program from the Faculty of Communication of the University of Brasília has 542 Masters and 127 Doctors whom have graduated.
