Goals

The Posgraduate Program has always been open to a broad view of the phenomenon of Communication and, through its lines of research, directs its efforts to the knowledge of processes derived from the specificities of our academic field and related professions. From journalism to politic and politics; from advertising to aesthetics and the consumer culture; from cinema to languages ​​and narratives; From radio and television to the study of technologies, and from these to the complex contemporary world strongly marked by the now evident new communicational paradigm of the Internet, the postgraduate Program seeks to be in tune with current trends.

On the other hand, it faces the debate on interdisciplinarity and dares to move through areas that represent objects of study in the case of Communication, shedding light on theoretical, analytical and interpretative experiences that allow ongoing research to reach other levels in the rise and dissemination of knowledge. We understand that interdisciplinarity and transdisciplinary are constitutive elements of the identity of our posgraduate Program, as they relate to its Proposal, the Scientific Production of the members, the Research Lines and the development of future activities.

General Objectives

To encourage an emancipatory and emancipatory formation, not merely restricting to confer Masters and Doctorate titles, but favoring opportunities for expansion of critical thinking, reflection on the role of postgraduate in society, and ensuring the development of skills to learn and lead to conscious and enlightening learning. We understand that it is the mission of every posgraduate program to produce new knowledge.

Specifics

1) To reaffirm the commitment to the act of thinking, stimulating self-development, the search for autonomy in research and the coherence between teaching, research and extension activities in the field of Communication;

2) Seek innovative actions with social, cultural and economic significance, focusing on benefits to society, in connection with the country’s political project, culture and national development, with expanded education, social emancipation and internationalization;

3) Combine the dimensions of reflection and empiricism with the multi, inter and transdisciplinary vocation of the area, in the sense of the academic and professional valuation of Communication, in its various qualifications;

4) Contribute to the qualification, training and specialization of teachers and students, putting them in contact with other postgraduate programs, other institutions and research centers in Brazil and abroad;

5) Seek the insertion and impact of the Communication PosGraduate Program at the regional and national levels, through excellence in research and teaching, collaborating with the quality of the Brazilian education and the social emancipation;

6) Consolidate the production of communication knowledge at local, regional, national and international levels, encouraging the realization and participation in events; regular and good quality intelectual, technical and artistic production; the creation and continuity of the Research Groups, as well as the sharing and dissemination of the resulting knowledge;

7) Accepting the challenge of internationalization through strategies, actions and procedures that can assure teachers and students the benefits of knowledge exchange and exchange.
